We also offer public Running Safaris that are open to everyone. A sample itinerary is provided below. Day 0 – Fri, June 22, 2012 (Nairobi – Arrival Day)
We ask our guests to arrive in Nairobi no later than the evening of Friday, June 22. Our drivers will greet you at the airport and bring you to our beautiful hotel. Learn more
Day 1 – Sat, June 23, 2012 (Nairobi)
We’ll start the day with a light run led by a Kenyan host. Then we’ll attend a series of orientation meetings to learn all about the week ahead. You’ll have time to relax in the afternoon before enjoying an informal buffet style dinner followed by our gala Welcome Reception. You’ll meet Kenyan dignitaries and running stars, and have fun socializing with other guests to the rhythms of Kenyan music. Learn more
Day 2 – Sun, June 24, 2012 (Nairobi)
We’ll enjoy a training run in the morning followed by an engaging classroom session. Then, we’ll assemble and begin our long scenic bus ride to the High Altitude Training Center in Iten – home of many Kenyan champions. Learn more
Day 3 – Mon, June 25, 2012 (Iten)
We’ll begin our stay at the High Altitude Training Center with a talk and panel discussion led by author and journalist Jürg Wirz regarding the training secrets of Kenyan runners. Then, we’ll visit legendary Saint Patrick’s High School and Kamariny Track. Finally, we’ll enjoy a friendly road race with local runners for benefit of a Kenyan charity. Learn more
Day 4 – Tue, June 26, 2012 (Nandi Hills)
On this day half our group will visit Nandi Hills for training, lectures and a spectacular run among rolling hills and tea plantations with Kenyan runners. The remaining half will stay in Iten for a full day of training and activities at the High Altitude Training Center. Learn more
Day 5 – Wed, June 27, 2012 (Iten)
Another busy day of excursions and training. We’ll repeat the activities of Day 4 but swap our programs for each group. Learn more
Day 6 – Thu, June 28, 2012 (Nyeri)
We’ll begin the day in Iten with a scenic run then embark for Nyeri with a stop at Lake Bogoria along the way. Learn more
Day 7 – Fri, June 29, 2012 (Nyeri)
On this day we’ll head out for a magnificent wildlife safari where you’ll have many great photo opportunities. Then we’ll relax, take a deep breath, and look ahead to Day 8 and the Lewa Marathon. Learn more
Day 8 – Sat, June 30, 2012 (Lewa Wildlife Conservancy)
Marathon Day! Running is optional. Some of you will have chosen to run the full marathon, some will run the half, while others will participate as spectators. It’s up to you. Great parties and celebrations follow the race! Learn more
Day 9 – Sun, July 1, 2012 (Nyeri – Departure Day)
We’ll spend one last night in Nyeri after the marathon. For those who are up to it, we’ll have a recovery run in the morning. Then, we’ll wrap things up, say our goodbyes, and look back on our extraordinary running adventure. Some may choose to extend their stay in Kenya, while others will begin their trip home. Learn more
